Marianne Brandt

Germany (1893—1983)
Marianne Liebe studied art in a private school in Weimar and married Erik Brandt in 1921. In 1924 she enrolled at the Bauhaus under Moholy-Nagy and studied industrial design and photography. In 1926 she moved to Paris and continued experimenting with photomontage. After separating, she returned to Bauhaus and served as Deputy Head of metal workshop, while continuing to work with photography. In 1929 she began working for Gropius in Berlin. She also became Head of Design Department at the Ruppelwerk Factory in Gotha. She spent the last years in Chemnitz working as a painter, weaver and sculptor.
